Penguins Continue Homestand Against Marquette on Friday

The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team will continue its homestand against non-conference opponent Marquette on Friday, Feb. 17. First draw is set for 1 p.m. inside the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs. A win over Marquette would mark the first 2-0 start in program history.
About Marquette
The Golden Eagles open the 2023 season with a 1-0 record following their win over San Diego State on Sunday, 20-13.
Marquette was led by Lydia Foust who tied the program record with seven goals scored. Ellie Henry netted 12 draw controls in the team's inaugural victory.
The program is under the direction of Meredith Black who is in her 11th season with the Golden Eagles. Black led the team to an 8-10 overall record and a 3-2 Big East conference record last season. Marquette finished tied for second in the regular season, earning a spot in postseason action.
Clark Makin' Mark
Junior Erin Clark earned this season's first Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her all-around impressive offensive performance against Butler on Sunday including the game-winning score.
Clark, a native of Montrose N.Y., delivered a seven-point performance with a noteworthy four assists and a hat trick of goals in the Penguins' win. She led all scorers across the board in assists and points. Adding to her already impressive stat line, she tallied four draw controls, grabbed a ground ball, and forced a turnover.
Last Time Out
The Penguins earned an impressive victory over Butler, 19-18, in their first game of the 2023 season to start 1-0.
After a slow start, the Penguins used an 8-4 run in the second quarter to take a three-point advantage into halftime. YSU's offense came to a halt mid-fourth quarter as Butler went on a 4-0 scoring run. All tied up, 18-18, with 14 seconds on the clock, Natalie Calandra-Ryan found Clark at the right wing for the game-winning score.
Calandra-Ryan led all teams with a game-high five goals on nine total shots. She also netted four draw controls, made an assist, and caused two turnovers.
Alongside Clark, Sydney Bumstead and Abby Yesko each netted a hat trick of goals, Bumstead's on just three total shots. Ali Korin and Ally Garrett also delivered multi-goal outings with two apiece. Molly Sheridan also found the back of the net on her only shot of the day.
Defensively, Mikaela Staranko made eight saves on 29 Butler shots, half of which came in the fourth quarter on a full 60 minutes of play. Aryss Lindsey caused three turnovers while grabbing four ground balls and tallying four draw controls.
Penguins Picked Fourth
YSU was selected fourth in the 2023 Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving 31 points.
