Prairie View A&M Invitational at The ITRC Up Next for Bowling

The Youngstown State bowling team will fly south this weekend for the Prairie View A&M Invitational at the ITRC, an exclusive tournament featuring some of the top teams in the country at the International Training and Resource Center in Arlington, Texas.

Tournament Format

The PVAMU Invitational will feature a modified 13-match format where 11 matches of qualifying will be on a Round Robin basis, and two bracket matches will determine the final standings. There will be five Baker matches on Friday starting a 12:15 p.m. Eastern, and total pinfall will determine the winners of each head-to-head match. Five traditional matches will follow on Saturday starting at 10:25 a.m. Eastern with pinfall again determining the winners. One more traditional match to complete the Round Robin will begin Sunday's competition at 9:25 a.m. Eastern, and teams will be seeded into the bracket based on total pins from the first 11 matches. The bracket matches will be contested in a best-of-seven Baker format.

Scouting the Field

Youngstown State will join 11 other teams this weekend in a small field packed with talent. Including the seventh-ranked Penguins, the top nine teams and 11 of the top 15 from December's National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 Poll will compete.

Previously at the PVAMU Invitational

This will be Youngstown State's second consecutive trip to the Prairie View A&M Invitational at The ITRC. Last season, the Penguins qualified sixth and finished eighth among the 12-team field. Jade Cote placed sixth individually with a six-game pinfall of 1,300, and she was four pins shy of making the all-tournament team. Lyndsay Ennis finished 14th with a high game of 268, and Kirsten Moore placed 21st.

Recapping the Northeast Classic

Youngstown State opened its spring schedule last week by finishing fifth among 33 teams at the Northeast Classic. The Penguins went 9-4 in their head-to-head matches, and they finished the weekend by beating No. 6 Arkansas State and No. 11 Maryville in back-to-back bracket matches that went to game seven. YSU posted the third-highest pinfall in Friday's five Baker matches, and the Penguins qualified sixth for the playoff bracket. Individually, Kirsten Moore was named to the All-Tournament Second Team with a 1,093 set that included a career-high 275 game.
