Box Score The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season in dramatic fashion rallying for a 4-3 win over Buffalo on Thursday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (1-2) dropped the doubles point and the first two completed singles contests before rallying to defeat the Bulls (0-1). It was UB's first visit to Youngstown since 1998.
YSU claimed the hard-fought win as Laurentiu Mandocescu earned a 7-5, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.Â
Down 3-0, Javi Pla picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 and Clement Mainguy followed with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win in his debut at the No. 1 spot for the Penguins. Harry Fouzas won his first set at No. 4 singles (7-5) but trailed 5-1 in second. Fouzas battled back to win the final six games for a 7-5 win and to even the match.Â
In doubles, Nathan Favier and Mondocescu earned a 6-2 win at No. 2, but the Bulls won the other two matches claming the point.
The Guins head west on the Ohio Turnpike for a match at Toledo on Friday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
