Box Score The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Dayton on Sunday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Guins (0-2) won the doubles point with solid wins at No. 2 and No. 3, and picked up victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles against the Flyers (2-3).
YSU took a lead by battling to take the doubles point. YSU dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 1, but rallied from 2-0 deficits to take the other two matches. The first to clinch was Clement Mainguy and Harry Fouzas who claimed a 6-3 victory. At No. 3, Will Everett and Javier Gonzalez Pla won the final two points taking a 7-5 decision at No. 3 doubles.
The Flyers proved to be just as tough in singles play winning at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6. The wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles came in three sets and helped UD clinch the match. At No. 3, Nathan Favier earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory while Fouzas grinded through a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 4.
YSU was also scheduled to play Ashland later in the day, but inclement weather impacted the Eagles' travel plans and the match was canceled.
The Guins return to the court on Thursday when they play host to Buffalo. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
