The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams open the 2023 calendar year at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on Saturday in University Park, Pa.
The Penguins will send a strong contingent of athletes to Penn State. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. start for the field events and a noon beginning for the running events.

Men's Preview
In the sprints, Christian Ford, Tye Hunt, Ben Alvarico, Harry Barton, Ryan Laird, Nate Lewis and Luke Laubacher will be in action. In the distance events, Trenton Shutters, Tobias Jones, Jack Wilcoxson, William Hanchosky, Keegan Barnette, Mikel Lagaras, Ty Coon, Riley Jackson, Thomas Caputo, Hunter Christopher, Chase Easterling, Tyler Clark and Ryan Meadows will all be in action.
In the field events, Lonnie Harper, Terron Taylor and Mason Stephens will compete in the high jump, Dorian Chaigneau, Wyatt Lefker, Blake Sifferlin and Lawrence Gawell will be in action in the pole vault, Samuel Challis, Hunt, Jakari Lomax and Laubacher will be in the long jump, Zach Gray, Ryan Henry, Coleson Kertesz and Dominic Perry are set to compete in the shot put and Kertesz and Austin Clay will participate in the weight throw.
Women's Preview
In the sprints, Jahniya Bowers, Kyndia Matlock, Logan Franczkowski, Cyncere Cunningham, Madison Murry, Teddi Kinsey and Liana Rodriguez are slated to compete. Bowers brings the nation's fastest time in the 60m into the weekend. In the distance races, Malena Cybak, Aiamyia Dudley, Carly Hall, Ashleigh Rowley, Mackenzie Scott, Morgan Cole, Molly Hopple and Ashley Ventimigilia will be in action.
In the field events, Rachel Jeffries and Olivia Jones will be in action in the high jump, Erin Bogard, Emma Etzwiler, Melana Schumaker and Gabbi Selman are scheduled to compete in the pole vault, Emily Bee, Nia Williams-Matthews, Alexis Prater and Esther Solarin will participate in the long jump, Williams-Matthews will also be in action in the triple jump, Jones, Molly Radcliffe and Lauren Sheehan will throw the shot put and Radcliffe, Sheehan, Emily Wolf and Krista Perry will be in the weight throw.
