Highlighted by Sean Peterson and Tye Hunt tabbing individual event victories, the Youngstown State track and field program concluded second-day competition at Mount Union's John Homon Open and Tennessee's Tennessee Relays on Friday.
Tennessee Relays Highlights
Crossing just over a second slower than his YSU school record time of 1:49.57, Peterson clocked a 1:51.06 during the men's 800m run to post the quickest time of the day and earn the event victory. With his win, Sean ousted 30 competitors during the three-heat race. Behind, CJ Schumacher finished 21st with a time of 1:58.01.
In his only legal jump of the event, Hunt, on his third attempt, posted a 7.08m (23' 2¾") mark to take the outright victory in the men's long jump. Closely behind, Daiquain Watson logged a 7.04m (23' 1¼") mark on his third attempt of the event to finish in third. Not to be largely outdone, Samuel Challis finished seventh with a 6.87m (22' 6½") leap. 15 jumpers competed in the event.
On her sixth and final attempt, Molly Radcliffe tossed 14.39m (47' 2½") in the women's shot put for the second-best throw of the day. Radcliffe out-threw 14 throwers en route to her runner-up finish.
Clocking a personal-best time of 14.40, first-year Penguin Luke Laubacher posted the fifth-fastest mark of the 110m hurdles in a field of 14 runners. In the women's 100m hurdles Madison Murry clocked the ninth-fastest mark of the event in a 22-entry field, posting a personal-best time of 13.76.
Both clocking personal-best marks, Suerethia Henderson and Kyndia Matlock logged top-10 finishes during Friday's women's 100m dash. Henderson slashed her previous personal best by nearly three-tenths of a second, running an 11.68 for a fourth-place finish in the event. Behind, Matlock turned in the eighth-fastest time of the event, posting an 11.85.
Representing YSU in the men's 100m dash, Christian Ford ran a personal-best time of 10.58 en route to a ninth-place finish on the day. Ford edged 17 runners with his performance.
Stephanie Simon led all Penguin finishers in the women's long jump competition, leaping to a personal-best mark of 5.81m (19' 0¾") on her third attempt for a fifth-place finish. Simon's jump acts as the fourth-furthest mark in YSU history. Nia Williams-Matthews also logged a top-10 finish in the event, finishing 10th with a personal-best 5.65m (18' 6½") leap. Williams-Matthews mark comes in tenth-best all-time in school history.
Clearing team-best 1.68m (5' 6") at her second attempt at the height, first-year Penguin Victoria Lanese set a new personal-best effort en route to a fifth-place finish overall. Lanese attempted 1.71m (5' 7¼"), but couldn't clear.
Noah Drudy acted as the Penguins best finisher in the men's javelin throw, tossing 55.75m (182' 11") for the sixth-best throw of the event. Teammate Weston McLain finished 13th with a 47.67m (156' 4") chuck.
Clocking the second-fastest mark in YSU history, Morgan Cole posted personal-best time of 4:35.56 in the first of two women's 1500m heats to post the tenth-quickest time of the day. Behind her, Ashleigh Rowley clocked a 4:42.68 for 22nd.
In the men's race Derek Basinger highlighted the YSU effort with a personal-best time of 3:57.52 for 16th.
John Homon Open Highlights
Edging the 25-thrower field, fourth-year Penguin Cambrie Campbell posted a 37.85m (124' 2") mark in the women's javelin throw to earn her first event victory during her outdoor season debut.
Dominic Perry logged the Penguins best finish in the men's hammer throw, tossing 49.84m (163' 6") for fifth-overall. Right behind, Zach Gray posted a 49.04m (160' 10") throw for seventh.

The final day of events at the Tennessee Relays (Sat., April 9) will feature the women's discus throw and men's pole vault competitions, which are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m, with an array of field events to follow.
