Oakland scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on its way to a 14-1 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team in the series finale on Sunday at the Oakland Baseball Field.

The Penguins fall to 10-17 overall and 3-3 in Horizon League play while the Golden Grizzlies improve to 13-13 overall and 6-3 in league action.

The game was a pitcher's duel through the first four-plus innings before Oakland struck four six runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Golden Grizzlies would go on to score in four straight innings including five in the eighth to create an insurmountable margin.

Seth Lucero had a pair of hits while Steven D'Eusanio hit his third home run of the season. Padraig O'Shaughnessy and Dylan Swarmer each had a base hit while Lucas Nasonti and Braeden O'Shaughnessy each stole a base.

YSU starter Matt Brosky suffered the loss after allowing six runs on five hits while striking out six batters over 4.1 innings. The junior right-hander retired the first five batters he faced and he sat down 13 of the first 14 hitters he went against. Brosky did not allow a hit until a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth as he retired the side in order in the first, third and fourth frames. He had a strikeout in four different innings and he had multiple punch-outs in each of the first two innings.

Casey Marshalwitz was responsible for two runs on two hits in one inning of relief while Lane Rhodes was charged with one run on two hits in one inning of work. Brandon Matthews surrendered five runs on four hits in one third of an inning while Alex Cardona and Andrew Russell each worked 0.2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Golden Grizzlies struck for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. Brenton Phillips hit a one-out double and scored on an RBI single by Brandon Heidal. After Thomas Green reached on an infield single, Seth Tucker delivered an RBI single to right field. Later in the frame, Brad Goulet recorded an RBI single and Michael Stygles followed with a bases-loaded walk. After Marshalwitz came on in relief of Brosky, Brandon Nigh drew a bases-loaded walk and Ian Cleary drove in a run with an RBI groundout to give Oakland a 6-0 lead.

YSU got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when D'Eusanio hit a two-out solo home run to right field.

Oakland added two runs on three hits in home half of the sixth to push its advantage to 8-1. Green reached on a fielder's choice and Tucker doubled to set up a two-out, two-run single by Stygles. Phillips hit a one-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to push the Golden Grizzlies' lead to 9-1.

Oakland added five runs on six hits in the home half of the eighth to produce the final score of 14-1. Luke Malmanger notched an RBI single before Nigh smacked a three-run home run to left field. Heidal added an RBI single to plate the final run of the contest.

Oakland starter Travis Densmore earned the win after allowing one run on five hits and striking out four batters over seven innings. Aleksei Goldhill and Brandon Deans each worked a scoreless inning of relief, and Deans struck out the side in the ninth.

Heidal went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Golden Grizzlies offensively. Phillips went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and two runs scored while Nigh recorded a game-high four RBIs.

Youngstown State will step out of Horizon League play when it travels to Ohio State on Tuesday evening. First pitch at Nick Swisher Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on YSNLive.com.
