Peterson's Record-Breaking Performance Highlights Two-Meet Friday Slate

Highlighted by Sean Peterson crossing the finish line at Hayward Field in record-breaking fashion, the Youngstown State track and field program produced several personal-best performances during Friday's two-meet slate at the Oregon Relays and Jesse Owens Classic.

With a time of 3:40.33, Peterson set a new YSU record in the men's 1500m at the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field. Peterson's mark rewrites his previous record of 3:42.97 set at the Raleigh Relays nearly one month ago on March 24. Finishing ahead of a quick competition, Peterson's performance earned him a fifth-place nod, in front of members of the Oregon and Wisconsin track and field programs.

Running Highlights – Jesse Owens Classic
Clocking the second-fastest women's 1500m time in program history, Nicole Squatrito crossed the finish with a time of 4:29.29 that qualified as the eighth-fastest time of Friday's event. Four more Penguins posted personal-best marks in the event, including Morgan Cole (4:33.41) who finished 17thAshleigh Rowley (4:36.32) who finished 19thCarly Hall (4:40.64) who finished 25th and Ashleigh Ventimiglia (4:48.93) who finished 31st.

Posting the seventh-quickest men's 1500m run in school history, Derek Basinger led the Penguin charge in Friday's event with a time of 3:53.33 for 10th. Behind, Hunter Christopher also clocked a new personal-best with a time of 3:55.31 for the 10th-fastest mark in program history and a 14th-place finish. Riley Jackson (3:57.43) and Mikel Lagaras (4:02.57) also logged personal-bests for the event.

Suerethia Henderson tied a personal-best mark in the women's 200m, clocking a time of 24.20 for the seventh-fastest performance of the event. Behind, Kyndia Matlock (24.81) and Cyncere Cunningham (24.84) finished 14th and 15th, respectively.

In the men's event, Anthony Woods clocked a season-best time of 21.34 for the eighth-fastest time of the event. Behind, Christian Ford also finished inside the top-15 runners with a time of 21.67 for 12th.

Teddi Kinsey acted as the Penguins best finisher in the women's 400m with a personal-best time of 1:04.01 for the ninth-quickest time of the event. Mara Wilson came in 12th with a time of 1:05.98.

In the men's event, Luke Laubacher posted an eighth-place finish with a time of 58.67.

Maggie Sebest and Julia Magliocca finished back-to-back in the women's 5000m run, earning 15th and 16th-place nods. Sebest clocked a personal-best time of 18:26.98, while Magliocca finished at 18:31.07.

Field Event Highlights – Jesse Owens Classic
Tallying his second event victory in as many weeks, Tye Hunt leaped to a 7.52m (24' 8¼") mark in the men's long jump on his only legal jump to pace the field. Next, Jakari Lomax posted a 7.37m (24' 2¼") jump on his third attempt to finish third. Also tabbing a top-5 finish, Laubacher finished fourth with a personal-best 7.18m (23' 6¾") jump.

Emily Bee posted a third-place finish in the women's long jump competition with a personal-best 5.42m (17' 9½") leap.

Tossing 44.68m (146' 7") on her sixth and final throw, Olivia Jones logged a season-best mark in the women's javelin throw for a runner-up finish in the event. Following, Caryn Jarrett threw 30.04m (98' 6") on her first of six throws for fifth.

In the men's event, Noah Drudy matched Jones' runner-up finish with one of his own, throwing 59.97m (196' 9") on his sixth attempt. Weston McLain tossed 52.07m (170' 10") for fifth.

Zach Gehm tossed the seventh-best toss in YSU history on his sixth and final attempt in the men's hammer throw, logging a 56.51m (185' 4") heave.

Competition at Ohio State will resume tomorrow morning, Friday, April 23, at 10 a.m. with a combination of field events (men's shot put and triple jump, women's discus and triple jump). Running events are set for a 12 p.m. start with preliminary heats of the women's 100m hurdles.
