SLIPPERY ROCK, Penn. – The Youngstown State track and field program totaled four event victories during the one-day Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational on Saturday at William Lennox Track at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Noah Drudy (javelin), Dominic Perry (shot put), Wyatt Lefker (pole vault) and Mackenzie Scott (5000m) logged first-place finishes on the day.
Running Highlights
The Penguins went 1, 2, 4 in the women's 5000m run, led by Mackenzie Scott's personal-best time of 17:41.65 that acted as the fastest time of the day. Karissa Sonneberger tabbed the runner-up finish with a personal-best time of 17:56.03, followed by Ashleigh Ventimiglia's fourth-place finish with a personal-best time of 18:26.14.
Evan Alten acted as the best YSU finisher in the men's 800m run, logging a runner-up finish with a personal-best time of 1:55.50. Right behind, Ty Coon (1:56.75) and Mikel Lagaras (1:57.98) tallied fifth and seventh-place finishes, respectively.
As the lone Penguins competitor in the event, Maggie Sebest posted a runner-up finish in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:41.71.
In his event debut, Luke Laubacher clocked a personal-best time of 57.22 in the men's 400m hurdles for the fourth-fastest time of the day.
Field Event Highlights
The Penguins swept the top two spots in the men's pole vault and were led by Watt Lefker who claimed the event victory with a 4.81m (15' 9¼") vault. Elijah Nelson took the runner-up finish with a 4.66m (15' 3½") vault.
Dominic Perry paced all competition in the men's shot put event, throwing the meets top mark of 17.10m (56' 1¼").
Emily Wolf finished led the charge in the women's discus throw, finishing fifth with a 39.81m (130' 7") chuck. In the men's event, the Penguins posted the third and fifth-furthest marks of day and were led by Zach Gray's 49.53m (162' 6") heave. Coleson Kertesz finished fifth, throwing 46.13m (151' 4").
Logging his second event win of the young season, Noah Drudy stood atop the podium in the men's javelin throw, throwing 63.97m (209' 10"). First-year Penguin Weston McLain finished fourth with a 57.07m (187' 3") launch.
Wolf added a fifth-place finish in the women's hammer throw with a 46.28m (151' 10") mark.
Matching a personal-best mark, Katlyn Griffie led all Penguins finishers in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.80m (12' 5½") en route to a runner-up finish in the event. Also posting top-5 finishes, Erin Bogard finished third with a 3.70m (12' 1½") vault and Emma Etzwiler came in fifth with a 3.55m (11' 7¾") vault.
Both clearing a 1.55m (4' 11") bar, Rachel Jeffries and Camryn Jarrett tied for the third-best mark in the women's high jump competition. In the men's event, Mason Stephens and Nathan Leskovac cleared 1.95m (6' 4¾") to tie for fourth.
Samuel Challis took fourth in the men's triple jump with a 13.48m (44' 2¾") leap.

YSU will split squads next week, sending portions of the program to Tennessee's Tennessee Relays and Mount Union's John Homon Open across the April 7-9 weekend. The three-day meet in Knoxville, Tenn., gets under way on Thurs., April 7, while action from Alliance, Ohio begins the following day, April 8.
