RALEIGH, N.C. – Sprinters Anthony Woods and Jahniya Bowers uplifted a pair of 22-year-old records during the Youngstown State track and field program's day-two showing at the N.C. State Raleigh Relays.
Clocking a time of 11.25, Bowers etched a new YSU program record in the women's 100m dash. With her performance, Bowers rewrites former-Penguin Jasmine Reynolds' record time of 11.44 set during the 2000 Horizon League Championships.
Making his outdoor debut for YSU, Woods clocked a 10.15 100m dash to set a new YSU record in the event. With his mark, Anthony has uplifted Kofi Owusu-Ansah's record that stood for nearly 22 seasons, being set in 2000. As it stands, Woods' time is the country's top mark.
Field Event Highlights
In his first appearance on the season, Jakari Lomax logged a top-5 finish in the men's triple jump with a 15.15m (49' 8½") mark on his third attempt of six total to earn fourth-place in the event. In his only mark, Daiquain Watson recorded a 13.08m (42' 11") mark for 21st.
On her first attempt, Nia Williams-Matthews posted a personal-best 1.80m (38' 8¾") leap in the women's triple jump for a 17th-place finish.
Receiving an invite to the exclusive men's pole vault invitational, Wyatt Lefker cleared a 4.91m (16' 1¼") bar in his first attempt at the height. Lefker had three chances at 5.01m (16' 5¼"), but couldn't surpass.
First-year Penguin Nathan Leskovac, in his outdoor debut, recorded the Penguins top finish in the men's high jump, clearing a 2.00m (6' 6¾") bar for eighth overall. Just behind, clearing the same height, Terron Taylor finished ninth.
For the second-consecutive week, Molly Radcliffe acted as the best Penguins finisher in the women's discus throw, posting a 44.35m (145' 6") mark on her first attempt for 13th-place.
Running Highlights
Morgan Cole clocked a personal-best time of 16:47.72 during the morning wave of the women's 5000m run to post the fastest time of her heat and 68th-quickest time of the event. Cole's time acts as the second-quickest in YSU history and slashes her previous best time of 17:02.95 set at the 2021 Drake Relays by nearly 18 seconds.
Behind Bowers in the 100m dash, three Penguins posted personal-best efforts. Suerethia Henderson finished ninth overall with a time of 11.73, Kyndia Matlock came in 17th with a time of 11.87 and Cyncere Cunningham recorded a 23rd-place finish with a time of 11.95. There was a field of 70 runners entered into the event.
Trailing Woods in the men's 100m dash, Tye Hunt clocked a personal-best time of 10.64 for 22nd and Christian Ford matched his previous personal-best time of 10.82 for 41st.
Led by Madison Murry's personal-best time of 14.07, which qualifies as the fifth-fastest mark in program history, three Penguins logged personal-best marks during the women's 100m hurdles competition. Murry acted as the best YSU finisher with a 20th-place bout, and was followed by Teddi Kinsey (14.48) and Alexis Prater (15.50), who finished 32nd and 47th, respectively.
In the men's event, Luke Laubacher made his outdoor debut in style with a time of 14.90 to finish 23rd overall.
The final day of will action from the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility will feature two field events – the hammer throw and long jump competitions that are scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. Saturday's events from the track are slated to start at 11:45 a.m. with the 4x100m relays.
