RALEIGH, N.C. – The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team set two school records en route to a strong showing on the first day of action from the three-day N.C. State Raleigh Relays.
With a time of 3:42.97, Sean Peterson set a new YSU program record in the 1500m run. Peterson's time ousts his previous school record and personal-best mark of 3:46.46 set last season at the 2021 N.C. State Raleigh Relays.
Hunter Christopher set a new YSU program record in the 5000m run, clocking a 14:19.19 to slash his previous P.B. by nearly 17 seconds. Christopher uplifts former-Penguin Ryan Sullivan's time of 14:21.06 set in 2019.
Dominic Perry led the Penguins effort in the men's shot put, posting a personal-best mark of 17.38m (57' ¼") for a ninth-place finish in the event. On the women's side, Molly Radcliffe logged a 13.49m (44' 3¼") for the 24th-best throw of the day.
Fourth-year Penguin Noah Drudy highlighted the Penguins effort in the men's javelin throw, tossing the 12th-furthest mark of the event with a 59.07m (193' 9") throw. Three places behind, Weston McLain, in just his second career start, threw 57.93m (190' 0") for 15th.
In the women's event, Olivia Jones threw 40.47m (132' 9") for 18th.
Katlyn Griffie and Emma Etzwiler went 18, 20 in the women's pole vault competition, both clearing a 3.45m (11' 3¾") bar.
Friday's competition at the Paul Derr Track & Field facility will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's discus throw and the men's high jump. Running events are slated to go at 10 a.m. with final sections of the women's 5000m run.
