COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Highlighted by Molly Radcliffe's new school record, a portion of the Youngstown State track and field program made its outdoor season debut on Saturday at the Maryland Invitational.
With a 48.02m (157' 6") mark during the women's discus throw, Molly Radcliffe set a new program record in the event en route to throwing the top mark of the meet. The previous record of 47.58m (156' 1") was set in 2012 by former Penguin Alison Roth.
Field Event Highlights
The Penguins took the top two spots in the men's javelin throw, led by Noah Drudy who recorded a 62.93m (206' 5") mark for the top throw in the event. Making his Penguin debut, Weston McLain logged a personal-best 58.50m (191' 11") chuck.
Dominic Perry took the top spot in the men's shot put competition with a 16.56m (54' 4") throw. After, Zach Gray earned the second-place nod with a 16.16m (53' 0¼") launch. Completing the event sweep, Radcliffe threw a personal-best 14.68m (48' 2") mark to pace the competition. Also finishing inside the top-5, Lauren Sheehan posted a 12.97m (42' 6¾") for fifth.
Not done, Radcliffe earned her second event win of the meet with her school record toss in the women's discus throw competition. Finishing fourth, Emily Wolf threw 40.64m (133' 4").
YSU placed two in the top-3 in the men's hammer throw, led by Gray who logged a 52.09m (170' 10") throw for the top effort of the day. Behind, Austin Clay posted a 44.80m (146' 11") throw for third.
In the women's event Radcliffe acted as the Penguins best finisher with a personal-best 47.86m (157' 0") mark for a sixth-place finish.
Gray went back to work in the men's discus competition, earning his third top-3 finish of the afternoon. The McDonald, Ohio, native posted a third place finish with a 46.46m (152' 5") sling. First-year Penguin also cracked the top-5 in the event with a personal-best 43.61m (143' 1") throw.
Running Highlights
CJ Schumacher paced YSU competitors in the men's 1500m run, finishing third in the event with a time of 4:04.66. Closely behind Mikel Lagaras logged a new personal-best time in the event (4:04.80) to finish fourth.
Ryan Laird earned the third-place nod in the men's 400m dash in his outdoor debut as a Penguin, clocking a personal-best mark of 50.57.
Evan Alten began his first collegiate outdoor season in style with a top-3 finish in the men's 800m dash. Alten turned in a time of 1:56.52 for third.
Brody Rupe and Jack Aulbach logged personal-best times in the men's 3000m run to finish inside the event's top-4 spots, going 3 and 4, respectively. Rupe clocked a 9:10.59, while Aulbach finished with a time of 9:24.54.
Acting as the only YSU entry in the event, Teddi Kinsey posted the fifth-quickest mark in the women's 100m hurdles competition with a time of 15.33. Kinsey upped her performance when stepped back into the blocks in the 400m hurdles, clocking a 1:06.09 for fourth in the event.

YSU is back in action next weekend to compete at the three-day North Carolina State Raleigh Relays slated for March 24-26 at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C.. Known as one of the biggest outdoor track events on the East Coast, the Penguins will square-off against many Power 5 track and field programs during competition.
