Milwaukee, Wis. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 contest to Omaha this afternoon at Marquette's Helfaer Tennis and Recreation Center.
The Penguins lost the doubles point and fought hard in singles, but came up just short.
Picking up wins for YSU was Laurentiu Mandocescu at No. 1, Nathan Favier at No. 2 and Clement Mainguy at No. 5.
At No. 5, Mainguy defeated Mikhail Korkunov by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. In action at No. 2, Favier defeated Davis Lawley in three sets taking the match 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Mandocescu battled for a 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 victory over Matt Hulme.
UNO earned straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 6. A three-set victory at No. 4 by Todd Chen clinched the win.
The Mavericks won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
The Penguins are next in action on Friday when they will host a pair of matches at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. YSU entertains Northern Illinois and Niagara in its first home matches of the season.
