Box Score The Youngstown State men's tennis team claimed the Horizon League's North Division title with a complete 7-0 win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 15-4 overall and 5-0 with the win while NKU falls to 4-12 and 1-5. The victory allows the Guins to get a bye to the HL semifinals which will be held later this month in Mason, Ohio.
YSU was very workmanlike in earning a season sweep of the Norse in just over two hours. The Guins beat NKU by a 5-2 score earlier this season.
In doubles, the Penguins claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point. At No. 1, Alexis Maulouet and Rafael Le Fur won 6-0. The other two matches were tightly contested. The Penguins prevailed at No. 3 as Malo Vernejoul and Dominik Vonbank picked up a 6-4 victory.
In singles, YSU won all six contests in straight sets.
At No. 1, Maulouet earned a 6-3, 7-5 win on his Senior Day. At No. 2, Vonbank collected a 6-4, 6-2 win. Le Fur picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. At No. 4, Oscar Gippet remained unbeaten with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win. At No. 5, Vernejoul cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win. At No. 6, Mihai Haita cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 triumph.
The Penguins close out the regular season on Friday against Cleveland State. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 6 p.m.
