Milwaukee, Wis. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team rallied for a strong performance in singles to earn a 5-2 victory over Marquette on Friday at the Helfaer Tennis and Recreation Center.
The Penguins (1-4) earned wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles against the Golden Eagles (3-6).
At No. 2, Nathan Favier earned a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Tin Krstulovic. In action at No. 3 singles, Javi Pla battled back after dropping his first set 6-4 to Rami Scheez to win the next two sets 7-6, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Harry Fouzas picked up a strong 6-2, 6-2 victory against Jan Jauch. At No. 5 singles, Clement Mainguy earned a 6-4, 6-4 win against Ian Brady and at No. 6 singles, William Everett won 6-4, 6-3 over Elijah Zifferblatt.
In doubles, YSU earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 as Fouzas and Everett won 6-4. Marquette won at No. 1 (6-2) and No. 3 (6-4) to take the point.
YSU returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Omaha. First serve for the contest against the Mavericks is set for 1 p.m. Eastern time.
