Tye Hunt, Jakari Lomax and Dorian Chaigneau crushed school records as the Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams had an impressive opening to the 2022-23 indoor track and field season on Friday during the YSU Icebreaker presented by Southwoods Health at the WATTS.

Winning events for the Guins throughout the day were Chaigneau (pole vault), Hunt (long jump), Erin Bogard (pole vault), Madison Murry (60m hurdles), Luke Laubacher (60m hurdles), Jahniya Bowers (60m dash), Molly Radcliffe (shot put) and Lomax (triple jump).

Men's Highlights

YSU placed first, second and fourth in the pole vault to start the meet. Taking first place clearing a school-record height was newcomer Dorian Chaigneau.

The 2021 NCAA Division II indoor champion in the event, Chaigneau cleared his second attempts at 5.05m, 5.15m and 5.25m before eclipsing 5.35m on his first try. Taking second place was Wyatt Lefker clearing a height of 5.05m while Elijah Nelson was fourth posting a mark of 4.65m. Lefker set the record of 5.15m at the YSU Icebreaker last year.

In the long jump, Hunt led the way with a school-record leap of 7.74m which came on his fifth attempt. Hunt had previously shared the record with Daiquain Watson at 7.49m. On Friday, he eclipsed that mark on four of his six attempts. Taking third place was Laubacher with a leap of 7.08 while Andrew Frank was seventh clearing a height of 7.00m and Samuel Challis placed eighth at 6.91m.

In the triple jump, Lomax increased his school record mark in an event victory posting a leap of 15.40m.
