Youngstown, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's soccer team turned in its best offensive performance of the season blanking Green Bay, 3-0, on Thursday evening at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins improve to 3-6-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the Horizon League while the Phoenix fall to 2-7-2 overall and 0-3-2 in league play.
Sophomore Elis Klein Spindola and junior Justine Appolonia each scored their first career goals at YSU while senior Abriana posted her first goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Brooklynn Kirkpatrick record her fourth shutout and third win of the season with five saves for the Penguins. Kirkpatrick became just the third player in school history to post four clean sheets in a season.
Klein Spindola got the Penguins on the board in the ninth minute of the match from assists from Regan LaVigna and Abriana Rondin to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
Rondin put the Penguins up 2-0 after a penalty kick at the 55:16 mark and Appolonia sealed the victory with a score in the lower-left corner at the 59:34 mark of the game Klein Spindola and Emma Rigone assisted on Appolonia's score.
Youngstown State visits Northern Kentucky, Sunday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
