Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team competed in the Viking Invitational this past Friday-Sunday at the MMTP at Cleveland State.
In singles play, Laurentiu Mandocescu advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of singles wins in the main draw. He beat CSU's Cole Chappell by a score of 6-1, 6-3 and knocked off the Vikings' Alan Matyjas by scores of 6-1, 6-2. In the quarters he dropped a hard-fought 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 contest to CSU's Kade Mindry.Â
David Alvarez Moreno earned two wins to reach the round of 16 while Nathan Favier and Harry Fouzas picked up wins to advance.
Asier Pena Ibanez had success in the consolation round picking up two victories.
In doubles, Will Everett and Moreno and Mandocsecu and Favier each picked up wins in main bracket play.
The Penguins return to Cleveland next weekend to conclude their fall campaign. YSU will play in the Green and White Invitational which is Saturday and Sunday at he MMTP.
