Box Score Cleveland, Ohio -- After falling behind early, the Youngstown State women's soccer team's second-half comeback attempt fell short in a 4-2 loss to Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon at Krenzler Field.
The Penguins fall to 5-7-3 overall and 3-3-2 in Horizon League play while the Vikings improve to 6-6-3 overall and 3-4-1 in league action.
The Vikings scored three first half goals to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Maddie Young scored her fifth goal of the season at the 9:47 mark of the match from an assist from Kathryn Ramicone.
Cleveland State added goals in the 34th and 43rd minute to take a 3-0 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
The Penguins came out aggressive in the second half taking 11 shots.
Senior Mikayla Mustard scored her first career goal on her own corner kick at the 51:36 mark of the game to cut the Vikings lead to 3-1.
Senior Regan LaVigna trimmed the deficit to one, 3-2, after taking a cross from right side from Haley Curtis that went off the cross bar and touched in.
Cleveland State's Ramicone though, converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to seal the victory for the Vikings.
Youngstown State hosts IUPUIÂ on Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
