Wilmington, Del. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision on Friday afternoon against Delaware at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
The Penguins (0-1) won the doubles point and picked up a singles victory in their first-ever contest against the Blue Hens (1-0).
YSU won the doubles point against the Blue Hens with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2, Laurentiu Mandocescu and Will Everett picked up a 6-3 victory while at No. 3, Nathan Favier and Clement Mainguy clinched the point with a 7-5 victory at No. 3. Delaware beat Erik Gran and Harry Fouzas 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play, Mainguy earned a win at No. 6 beating Emiliano Gonzalez 6-3, 7-6. At No. 2, Jai Gonalez Pla dropped a hard-fought three-set decision to Luis Molina - 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Delaware was victorious in the other four singles matches in straight sets.
The Penguins close out their two-match East Coast swing with an early morning match at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
