For the second time during the 2021-22 indoor track and field season, Erin Bogard has etched a new Youngstown State program record during the one-day YSU Collegiate Invitational on Jan. 21.
Bogard cleared a 4.11m bar on her third and final attempt at the height, overtaking her previous record of 4.05m set at the YSU Icebreaker on Dec. 3.
YSU accounted for seven event victories throughout Friday's action at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (200m (m), women's 200m (w), 60m hurdles (w), 60m (w), high jump (w), long jump (m), shot put (m)).
Running Highlights
With a time of 24.57, Suerethia Henderson set a new YSU Collegiate Invitational record in the 200m dash to earned her second event win of the season. Henderson's time uplifted former-Penguin Ciara Jarrett's time of 24.70 set during the 2013 indoor season.
Making his first appearance in the 200m blocks as a Penguin, Anthony Woods chalked his third event victory of the season with a time of 21.77 to win the men's event.
YSU went 1, 2, 3 in the women's 60m hurdles with second-year Penguin Madison Murry leading the charge. Murry clocked an 8.71 en route to her second event victory of the season, with Emily Bee recording a personal-best time of 8.87 to finish second and Teddi Kinsey crossing in third with a time of 8.91. In the men's event, Luke Laubacher grabbed a top-3 finish with a time of 8.27.
Earning her first event win on the 2021-22 season, Kyndia Matlock stepped into the blocks and ran away with the women's 60m dash. The Youngstown, Ohio, native crossed the line with a time of 6.61. In the men's race, Tye Hunt would capture the first of his two top-2 finishes on the meet with a runner-up nod. Hunt would record a personal-best time of 6.86.
In her event debut, Morgan Cole took the bronze in the women's mile with a personal-best time of 4:58.28.
Field Event Highlights
Tallying her third-straight event victory on the season, first-year Penguin Victoria Lanese cleared 1.74m on her first attempt at the height to nab the first-place nod in the women's high jump. Teammate Jessica Stever placed eighth, clearing 1.50m.
The Penguins swept the top three spots in the men's long jump as Hunt took the top spot with a personal-best mark of 7.30m. Right behind, Samuel Challis nabbed the silver with a 7.21m jump and Daiquain Watson placed third posting 7.20m.
Dominic Perry tallied his second event victory of the season in the shot put, throwing 17.31m - a mark just shy of his 17.71m personal-best. Molly Radcliffe, in just her third appearance as a Penguin, logged a third-place finish in the women's shot put competition. Radcliffe threw 13.53m on her fifth attempt.
For the second-consecutive week, Nathan Leskovac and Lonnie Harper found themselves finish inside the top-five finishers in the men's high jump. Laskovac led with a second-place finish, clearing 1.98m and Harper finished fourth with a 1.90m jump.
Before attempting a would-be school record height of 5.27m, Wyatt Lefker cleared 4.97m in the men's pole vault for second place in the event – his third top-three finish on the season.
Nia Williams-Matthews acted as the best Penguin finisher in the triple jump, earning a runner-up finish with an 11.53m mark. Not far behind, teammate logged an 11.31m mark for fourth.
