Track & Field Impresses at Akron Quad Meet

AKRON, Ohio – In its first of two meets on the weekend, members of the Youngstown State track and field program competed Friday evening at the Akron Quad Meet.

Running Highlights
Antoine Brown highlighted the men's 60m effort for YSU, clocking a time of 7.28 to finish 12th in the event. In his event debut, Andrew Frank turned in a time of 7.39 for 15th-place overall. In the women's 60m, Cyncere Cunningham raced to a 7.79 to place sixth overall.

The Penguins clocked three top-9 finishes in the men's 200m dash and were led William Delbaugh's personal-best time of 22.70. Just behind, teammate Ryan Laird came in seventh with a personal-best mark of 22.90. Antoine Brown (23.36) crossed the line in ninth. In the women's race, Logan Franczkowski placed ninth with a time of 26.14, just ahead of teammate Cyncere Cunningham's 10th-place time of 26.44 – a personal-best.

YSU went 8,9,10 in the women's 400m, with Liana Rodriguez leading the way with a time of 1:02.61. Just behind, Mara Wilson clocked a 1:03.64 and Grace Stovka recorded a 1:09.33.

In the men's mile run, Jack Wilcoxson (4:27.58), Riley Jackson (4:30.84) and Chase Harbaugh (4:51.56) posted personal-best times with their runs. In the women's event, Caylee Mackey led the way with a seventh-place finish with a time of 5:47.13.

Jackson (2:09.68) and Harbaugh (2:13.37) would also compete in the men's 800m race.

In the women's 800m, Lauren Dolak earned a top-7 finish with a time of 2:24.98. Camryn Kohout, in just her second appearance as a Penguin, clocked a 2:33.91 to finish 10th.

The Penguins placed two runners in a field of 22 competitors in the men's 3000m. Mikel Lagaras placed 13th with a time of 8:51.87, just tenths of a second in front of teammate Derek Basinger (8:52.73) who crossed in 14th. Hailey Zelenski (10:47.15), Ashley Ventimiglia (10:56.06), Aurora Fares (11:37.61) and Maria Dellimuti (11:41.63) went 9, 10, 11, 12 for the Guins in the women's race.

Field Event Highlights
In the men's long jump, Andrew Frank posted a top-five finish with a 6.75m mark – a jump just short of his personal-best in the event (6.78).

Coleson Kertesz logged the best finish for the Penguins in the shot put, posting a 14.16m mark to finish sixth in the event. Two spots behind, Mitch Cook recorded a 13.46m throw. Olivia Jones (11.18m) paved the way in the women's event, also throwing for sixth place.

Nathan Leskovac led the Penguins in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 2.00m bar to finish third in the event. Grant Moore finished fifth, clearing 1.95m.

With a throw of 13.64m, Emily Wolf tallied a seventh-place effort in the women's weight throw. First-year Penguin Krista Perry finished 10th with an 11.96m throw.

Up Next
A portion of the team competes tomorrow, Jan. 15, at the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge. Action will get underway with the women's shot put and both the men's and women's long jump at 11 a.m. Running events will start at Noon with the women's mile run and will continue on a tentative time schedule.

Following, the Penguins get set to host a pair of meets on back-to-back weekends inside the WATTS. The annual YSU Collegiate Holiday Classic is scheduled for Jan. 21, while the two-day YSU Mid-Major Invitational will follow on Jan. 28-29.
