Box Score 2 The Youngstown State baseball team earned a 7-5 comeback victory in game two to earn a doubleheader split and a 3-1 series win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday at Eastwood Field.
The Penguins won game two in seven innings after dropping game one 3-1 in eight innings. YSU is now 26-21 overall and 21-15 in Horizon League play while Purdue Fort Wayne is 10-28 overall and 7-21 in league action.

Purdue Fort Wayne scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and went on to earn a 3-1 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Eastwood Field.
The Penguins scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the score remained 1-0 until the Mastodons tied the game in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
YSU starter Jon Snyder allowed just one hit and struck out nine batters over six scoreless innings in a no-decision. After allowing a one-out single in the first inning, Snyder retired 10 straight batters as he sat down the side in order in the second, third and fourth innings. The Springboro, Ohio, native recorded a strikeout in each of the six innings he was on the mound, and he struck out the side in the fifth.
Blaze Glenn went 2-for-3 with a walk while Nick Caruso recorded an RBI double. Dominick Bucko and Braeden O'Shaughnessy also had hits for the Penguins as each team recorded five hits in the contest.
The Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Turner Grau reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a two-out RBI double from Caruso.
The Mastodons tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from Justin Greene.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored two runs on two hits in the top of the eighth to take the lead for good. Zac Baden hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brooks Sailors and scored on a wild pitch. Garett Lake, who was intentionally walked, came around to score on an RBI double by Aaron Chapman.
Gary Clift Jr. suffered the loss after allowing three runs on four hits over 1.2 innings while Chad Coles retired the only batter he faced in the eighth.
Purdue Fort Wayne starter Justin Miller allowed just one run on five hits and struck out eight batters over 7.1 innings to earn his fourth victory of the season. Cameron Boyd picked up his first save of the season after recording the final two outs in the bottom of the eighth.
Chapman went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Mastodons offensively.

The Youngstown State baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 5-3 deficit and earn a 7-5 win over Purdue Fort Wayne in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Penguins scored once in the second and twice in the third to build a 3-0 lead. The Mastodons scored the next five runs of the contest to take a 5-3 advantage before YSU struck four times in the sixth to regain the lead for good.
Glenn went 3-for-3 with the game-tying two-run single in the sixth while Grau hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs. Padraig O'Shaughnessy and Jeff Wehler also notched two hits apiece for the Penguins. The Mastodons outhit the Penguins 12-11 in the seven-inning contest.
Coles allowed two hits and struck out four batters over two scoreless innings of relief to earn his second victory of the season. YSU starter Nick Perez allowed two runs on six hits and fanned three over five innings while Joel Hake was responsible for three runs on four hits.

Purdue Fort Wayne got on the board in the top of the fourth when Lake hit a leadoff triple and scored on an RBI groundout by Chapman. The Mastodons scored their second run in the top of the fifth when Baden hit a one-out single and scored on a two-out RBI single by Jack Lang.
The Mastodons scored three runs on five hits in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 advantage. Chapman hit a leadoff single and scored on an error following a bunt single by Trenton Stoner. Later in the inning, pinch hitter Ryan Robison delivered a two-run double down the right field line.
The Penguins answered by scoring four runs on four hits in the home half of the sixth to retake a 7-5 edge. Trey Law drew a leadoff walk and Wehler hit a one-out single through the left side. After both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch, Glenn sent a two-run single to right center that evened the score at 5-5. Glenn then stole second, advanced to third on an infield single by Caruso and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Grau. Padraig O'Shaughnessy followed with an RBI single through the right side that scored pinch runner Phillip Glasser.
Purdue Fort Wayne starter Jacob Myer surrendered three runs on seven hits and struck out four batters over five innings in a no-decision. Boyd took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in the sixth inning.
Stoner went 3-for-4 to pace the Mastodons offensively while Chapman and Greene each added a pair of hits.
Youngstown State will step out of Horizon League play next weekend when it travels to Bellarmine for a three-game non-conference series. The Penguins and Knights will open the series on Friday at 2 p.m.
