JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Representing Youngstown State solely during Thursday's competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries, Erin Bogard bookended her historic inaugural outdoor season in the women's pole vault competition.
The first-year Penguin cleared the opening 3.77m bar on her first attempt. Moving on to round two and a bar set at 3.92m, Bogard recorded three unsuccessful vaults to end her day and secure her a 41st-place finish in the event.
Bogard ends her 2021 outdoor campaign as the program's record holder in the pole vault, clearing 4.01m at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. She not only uplifted her previous school record of 3.95m set at the Miami (Fl.) Hurricane Alumni Invitational, but also set a new facility record in the process.
The Penguins will be back in action tomorrow with Collin Harden competing in the quarterfinal heats of the men's 400m hurdles at 7:55 p.m. Harden placed 10th overall in the 400m hurdles in the first round at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, clocking a 50.94 to secure his spot in the event for the second-straight season. The The top 12 finishers - top three from the three heats and next three fastest times - will advance to the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon.
