Box Score Milwaukee scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally from a 6-2 deficit and beat the Youngstown State baseball team 7-6 on Saturday at Franklin Field in Franklin, Wis.
The Penguins scored the first three runs of the game before Milwaukee shaved the lead to 3-2 with two runs in the home half of the fifth inning. YSU plated three runs in the sixth to move in front 6-2 until Milwaukee struck five times in the seventh to claim its first win of the series.
Youngstown State falls to 16-14 overall and 11-8 in Horizon League play while Milwaukee improves to 11-15 overall and 11-8 against the conference. The Penguins had their four-game winning streak snapped after sweeping a doubleheader on Friday.
Blaze Glenn went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored to pace the Penguins offensively. Jeff Wehler, Phillip Glasser, Turner Grau and Lucas Nasonti had two hits apiece as YSU outhit Milwaukee 12-11.
YSU starter Jon Snyder allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out nine batters while matching his career high with six innings pitched in a no decision. The junior recorded a strikeout in each of the first six innings, and he recorded multiple punch outs in two different frames. Snyder retired the Panthers in order in the first, third and fourth innings, and he struck out the side in the third. He struck out three of the first four hitters he faced and six of the first 10.
Dalton Earich suffered the loss after allowing three runs on two hits during Milwaukee's five-run seventh inning. Joel Hake surrendered two hits and did not allow a run over two innings of work.
Wehler led off the game with single and advanced to second on a balk. After reaching third on a deep fly out to center field by Padraig O'Shaughnessy, Wehler was able to score on a passed ball to give YSU an early 1-0 lead.
The Penguins pushed their lead to 3-0 with two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Nasonti hit a leadoff single and advanced to third on a base hit by Wehler. Glasser then delivered an RBI single through the right side and Padraig O'Shaughnessy followed with sacrifice fly that brought home Wehler.
Milwaukee cut YSU's lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs on four hits in the home half of the fifth inning. After Conner Goodman and Mike Ferri hit back-to-back two-out singles, Nick Winter sent a two-run double down the left field line to pull the Panthers within a run.
Youngstown State responded immediately with three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth to increase its advantage to 6-2. Grau hit a one-out single, Glenn walked and Dominick Bucko was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Nick Caruso then came through with a two-run single to center field that scored Grau and Glenn. After Nasonti reached with a bunt single to load the bases again, Wehler was hit by a pitch to push across YSU's sixth run of the contest.
The Panthers mounted their comeback with five runs on five hits in the home half of the seventh inning. Mitchell Buban hit a leadoff single and Goodman followed with a walk. After the runners advanced a base on a wild pitch, Ferri sent a two-run single to right center. Later in the inning, Jack Cavanaugh drove in a run with a groundout and Jack Kraus recorded what proved to be the game-winning hit with a two-run single up the middle that put Milwaukee in front 7-6.
Milwaukee starter Mike Edwards allowed three runs, two of them earned, on seven hits over four innings. Andy Neu was responsible for three runs on three hits over two innings. Jake Armstrong was awarded the victory after working a scoreless seventh inning. AJ Blubaugh recorded the six-out save as he allowed just one hit over the final two innings.
Zach Nogalski, Buban and Ferri each had two hits for the Panthers while Kraus, Ferri and Winter each had two RBIs.
