Dayton, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team earned three singles wins a 4-3 loss to Dayton on Friday night at the South Regency Tennis Center.
Picking up wins for the Penguins were Laurentia Mandocescu at No. 2, Erik Gran at No. 3 and Will Everett at No. 4. The Guins also dropped tough three-set decisions at No. 1 and No. 5.
Dayton (1-4) earned the doubles point after wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, Everett and Vasilis Vardakis picked up a hard-fought 7-6 (5) win over Connor Bruce and Max DeCurtins.
The Flyers' wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles gave them a 3-1 lead and they clinched the match with Bruce's 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win over Vardakis. Gran closed out the contest with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against Steven Karl while Everett defeated Ronit Hiryur 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
Mandocescu picked up a strong 7-6 (3), 6-0 win over Erik Eliasson at No. 2 while David Moreno dropped a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 5 to Matthew DeMarco.
YSU returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Marquette. First serve at the Regency Tennis Center is set for 4:30 p.m.
