East Lansing, Mich. - The Youngstown State men's tennis had a strong performance at the ITA Midwest Regionals which were heled the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility at Michigan State.
Highlighting the event for YSU was a pair of wins by Erik Gran and Harry Fouzas in the doubles main draw. Gran and Fouzas upset No. 12 seed Jared Pratt and Lenard Soha of Wisconsin by a score of 8-6 to reach the round of 16 in doubles play. The pair lost 8-5 to Michigan's Andrew Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider in the round of 16.
In singles play, David Alvarez Moreno picked up two wins in the qualifying bracket. He won 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 over Illinois State's Arvid Hjalte and beat Vlad Meluta of Toledo by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
Clement Mainguy opened the qualifier with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win over Cleveland State's Austin Staiger.
In doubles, Asier Pena Ibanez and Moreno defeated Chicago State 8-5 and Laurentiu Mandocescu and Will Everett earned a 8-5 win over Toledo.
The Penguins conclude their fall campaign this upcoming weekend at the Cleveland State Invitational.
