YSU Falls in First Game at No. 13 Louisville

The Youngstown State baseball team dropped an 11-0 decision in game one of a three-game series at No. 13 Louisville on Friday afternoon.

The Penguins have lost three-straight games to drop to 1-3 after winning their season opener at Belmont last Friday. Louisville improves to 5-0 with the victory.

YSU was held to just three hits on the afternoon. Jeff Wehler and Trey Bridis each singled while Andrew Kendrick hit a double in the eighth inning.

Greg Dunham suffered his first loss of the season after allowing eight runs on eight hits over three innings. Dunham is now 1-1 after earning the victory is YSU's season-opening win at Belmont last week.

The Penguins got a strong effort from their bullpen, which allowed three runs on just three hits over the final five innings. Zack Minney, Jakob Brustoski and Chad Coles all made their first appearances of the season.

Minney tossed two scoreless innings and struck out two batters while Coles also fanned two in his only inning of work. Austin Butler came on to pitch a scoreless eighth inning in his second relief appearance this season.

Louisville got a dominant pitching performance from Adam Wolf, who allowed no runs on just two hits over seven innings while striking out six.

Pat Rumoro, Drew Campbell and Logan Wyatt each had two hits for the Cardinals while Josh Stowers posted three RBIs.

Louisville went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning when Wyatt sent an RBI single through the right side, scoring Stowers who had walked and stolen second base.

The Cardinals led off the bottom half of the second with a pair of singles as they went on to plate two runs in the inning to go ahead 3-0.

They would open things up further in the bottom of the third when Justin Lavey hit a two-run home run to left center. Louisville scored five runs in the inning to push their lead to 8-0.

The Cardinals added three more runs in the seventh inning to go in front 11-0. The Penguins were held scoreless for the first time this season.

Youngstown State and Louisville will play game two of their three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern.
