Penguins Pick Up School Record 16th Dual Win Beating CSU

Boardman - The Youngstown State men's tennis team used a solid performance from start to finish to claim a 6-1 win over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon. The Penguins set a school record with their 16th dual win this spring.

The Penguins (16-7 and 4-2) won the doubles point winning two of three matches then won five singles tilts against the Vikings (8-14 and 2-4).

In doubles, YSU won matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the point to offset a Cleveland State win at No. 3.

At No. 2, Danylo Veremeichuk and Joao Garretto won 6-2 and at No. 1, Mitch Maroscher and Thomas Rodrigues earned a 7-5 win to clinch the point.

In singles play, Maroscher won 6-4, 6-3 over Nico Mosturdi at No. 1. It was the final home contest for Maroscher, who transferred to YSU this year from Grand Canyon. Marsocher improved to 19-10 on the season and 15-5 in dual play.

Veremeichuk earned a 6-2, 7-6 win over Colton Buffington at No. 2. At No. 3, Rodrigues beat Ben Slade 6-4, 6-1. In action at No. 4, Garretto cruised to an impressive 6-3, 6-0 victory. At No. 5, Luke Purser earned a come-from-behind victory over Kevin Goth. After dropping the first set 6-3, Purser won the remaining two 7-6 and 11-9.

The Penguins are next in action on Saturday when they visit Green Bay in their Horizon League regular-season finale.
