Men's Tennis

Penguins Cruise Past Wabash In California Finale

Claremont, Calif. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team finished off a trip to California with a 6-1 win over Wabash on Thursday at the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Tennis courts.

The Penguins (12-5) won all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests in the dual.

Winning in singles were Mitch Maroscher, Matthew Kritzinger, Thomas Rodrigues, Joao Garretto and Gabriel Tolesani

At No. 1, Maroscher won 6-1, 6-0 over William Reifis. In action at No. 2, Kritzinger won 6-1, 7-5 over Michael Makio. At No. 3, Rodrigues defeated Jordan Greenwell 6-0, 6-0. Garretto won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 and Tolesani picked up a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Nicholas Pollock.

At No. 1 doubles, Marsocher and Rodrigues earned a hard-fought 7-6 (9-7) win over Makio and Reifis. At No. 2, Garretto and Danylo Veremeichuk beat Greenwell and Andrew Denning 6-2 and at No. 3, Luke Purser and Pol Virgil Blanco beat Patrick McAuley and Mazin Hakim 6-2.

The Penguins open Horizon League play on Saturday, March 25 when they play host to Valparaiso.
