Penguins Continue Hot Start With 6-1 Win Over Duquesne

Boardman - The Youngstown State men's tennis team improved to 3-0 with a 6-1 win over Duquesne on Sunday morning at the Boardman Tennis Center.

The Penguins are off to their best start to a season since 2004-05 when they won four straight fall duals to open the season.

YSU opened Sunday's dual winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Thomas Rodrigues and Mitch Marosher picked up a 6-3 win while at No. 2, Joao Garretto and Matthew Kritzinger also won 6-3.

In singles play, Maroscher earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Adam Blasinsky at No. 1. At No. 3, Rodrigues won in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 over Drew Akins. Garretto won 6-3, 6-3 over Tim Kane at No. 4. At No. 5, Gabriel Tolesani earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Andrew Ong while at No. 6, Luke Purser won in three sets over Jared Isaacs by a 6-1, 4-6, 10-3 score.

YSU is next in action on Saturday when it plays host to Saint Francis (Pa.) at the Boardman Tennis Center. The dual is set to start at 3 p.m.
