Cleveland, Ohio - Hugo Morth, Yossi Dahan, Bassem El Mekawi and Agustin Reyes won singles matches to lead the Youngstown State men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over Cleveland State on Friday night at the Medical Mutual Tennis Center.
With the win, YSU improves to 6-11 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League. Cleveland State falls to 11-9 and 1-2.
Morth clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 1 singles after Dahan, El Mekawi and Reyes won their matches in straight sets as well.
CSU earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles forcing the Penguins to win four singles matches to claim the dual.
At No. 6, Reyes beat William Malm by a 6-1, 7-5 score. At No. 5, Mekawi cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Benjamin Slade. Dahan earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4 against Kevin Goth.
CSU had picked up a win at No. 2 as the Vikings' Mirko Radosevic beat YSU's Matthew Kritzinger 6-2, 6-3.
After Morth was able to pick up a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 1 over John VanMeter, Luke Purser dropped a 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 decision to Colton Buffington at No. 3 singles.
YSU returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when it plays host to Green Bay.
