Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Cleveland State on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Championships at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Penguins (7-14) forced four of the five singles matches to go to a third set after dropping a heartbreaker in doubles.
After defaulting at No. 3 doubles, Hugo Morth and Agustin Reyes won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles against Andre Mick and Joe VanMeter.
At No. 2 doubles, Bassem El Mekawi and Yossi Dahan had a 5-3 lead against Colton Buffington and Kevin Goth. At 5-4, YSU had a match point, but the Vikings were able to stay alive and eventually take a 6-5 lead in the set. YSU had a match point at 6-5 in the tiebreaker, but CSU scored the last three points to win the match.
In singles play, Morth led VanMeter 6-2, 3-6, 4-2 in their match at No. 1. At No. 3, Mekawi was tied with Buffington 6-2, 6-7, 2-2. At No. 4, Reyes led Benjamin Slade 6-4, 2-6, 4-3.
At No. 2, Dahan dropped a 6-2, 7-6 decision to Mirko Radosevic. The clinching match for CSU was at No. 5 as Gabriel Tolesani lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to Goth.
