Macey Riese's Overtime Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to 3-2 Win Over Findlay

Senior Macey Riese scored her first goal of the season in the first overtime period to lift the Youngstown State women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Findlay on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
With just over three minutes left in the first extra period, Shannon Leghart lofted a direct kick into the Findlay penalty box. The Oilers' goalkeeper mishandled the pass and Riese crashed the net and slipped a shot in the left side of the goal for the game winner at the 96:38 mark.
With the win, the Penguins improve to 4-4 overall and Findlay falls to 1-2-1.
The Oilers struck quickly and took a 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the match. After a YSU foul just outside of the penalty box, Katelyn Anderson drilled a direct kick into the bottom left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
Alison Green knotted the match at 1-1 in the ninth minute after receiving a lofted cross from the left corner from Alex Kithcart. Green fielded the pass and posted her second goal of the year into the bottom left corner of the net.
The Oilers answered to take their second lead of the match. After a Penguins defender mishandled the ball, Findlay's Kendall Kwiatkowski laced a shot from 17 yards out past YSU goalkeeper Elizabeth Balgoyen to take a 2-1 lead at the 28:51 mark.
Less than two minutes later, sophomore Katie Hackos tied the game for a second time, 2-2, with some nifty footwork in the penalty box and beat goalkeeper SchauDon Herd.
Riese led the Penguins with five shots while Kyler Lum, Hackos, and Green each had four shots. In total, the Penguins outshot the Oilers, 21-11 and had six corners to Findlay's one.
The Penguins open Horizon League play against Northern Kentucky, Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
