
Kyler Lum Scores First Career Goal in 3-1 Setback to Northern Kentucky

Youngstown -- Sophomore Kyler Lum scored her first career goal, but the Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Northern Kentucky in the Horizon League opener on Friday evening at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins fall to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the Horizon League while the Norse improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
The Norse did not waste any time getting on the board and scored three goals in the first 30 minutes of the match. In the third minute of the match, Sami Rutowski fed Jessica Frey in box and her shot ricocheted off the left post into the goal for a 1-0 lead at the 2:37 mark.
Macy Hamblin added another goal at the 24:37 mark when she launched a shot from 25-yards out over the head of YSU goalkeeper Elizabeth Balgoyen.
Megan Shafer put the Norse up, 3-0, with goal at the 29:12 mark of the first half.
Lum's first career goal came with just 26 seconds remaining in the match with a powerful shot from 25 yards out into the upper-left corner of the goal.
The Penguins played a much stronger second half, taking seven of their nine shots after halftime and keeping the Norse scoreless for the final 55 minutes of the match.
The Penguins host St. Bonaventure, Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m.
