Green Bay, Wis. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team put forth a strong effort but lost 6-1 to Green Bay on Sunday morning at the Western Racquet & Fitness Club.
The Penguins (7-11 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League) won the doubles point against the Phoenix before losing all six singles matches. With the win, Green Bay (15-7, 5-0) earned at least a share of the Horizon League regular-season title.
YSU won two of three singles matches to claim the first point of the match. At No. 2, Remi Chancerel and Victor Pereira won 6-3 while at No. 3, Hugo Morth and Bassem El Makawi picked up a 6-3 win as well. The Phoenix won at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Green Bay won in straight sets at No. 2 through No. 6. Chancerel had a tough match with No. 125 Michael Tenzer in the top spot. Chancerel won the first set 7-6, but lost 6-4 in the second. In the third, Tenzer pulled out a 10-8 win to claim the match.
The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they play host to UIC. First serve at the Boardman Tennis Center is set for 5 p.m.
