Ohio State Knocks Off Penguins in Midweek Match

Columbus, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Ohio State on Tuesday afternoon at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center.

The Penguins fall to 1-3 on the year while the fifth-ranked Buckeyes are now 6-0.

YSU dropped the doubles point losing at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 3, Silviu Mistreanu and Max Schermin hung tough against Herkko Pollanen and Kevin Metka trailing 4-3 as the point was clinched by the Buckeyes.

In singles play, the Penguins suffered losses at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6. Mistreanu had a strong outing against Pollanen, OSU's No. 1 player. The match was tied at five in the first set, but was not completed.

At No. 3, Dawoud Kabli lost 6-2, 6-1 to Ralf Steinbach, at No. 5, Zeeshan Ismail lost 6-0, 6-2 to Metka and Sharvil Nawghare suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Hunter Callahan.

At No. 2, Sebastian Hagn was trailing 6-2, 2-1 to Chris Diaz while Schmerin was behind Marko Goles-Babic 6-3, 2-1 when the match ended.

YSU returns to action on Saturday when it visits Duquesne. The dual is set for 6 p.m.
