Box Score Struthers, Ohio -- Notre Dame College scored
nine two-out runs and capitalized on four errors to defeat the
Youngstown State baseball team 12-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Cene
Park.
David Leon and Jake Kucek both had two hits and scored for YSU.
The Falcons scored six runs in the first two innings, and YSU never
got closer than 6-2.
NDC scored on a fielder's choice and a two-out double in
the first to take a 2-0 lead, and the Falcons scored all four of
their runs in the second after there were two outs. YSU starter
Josh North got an infield pop up with runners at the corners and
one out, but he walked the next batter and gave up a three-run
double to Pat Ross. Cleanup hitter Taylor Neville followed with an
RBI single that made the score 6-0.
YSU scored twice in the bottom of the second when Dan Hurlimann
walked and Kucek doubled to set up a two-run single by Kevin
Hix.
Penguin reliever Joey Gajda retired the side in the third and
the first two hitters in the fourth, but Notre Dame College put
together a three-run charge to go up 9-2. An unearned run with two
outs in the fifth put the Falcons up 10-2.
Marcus Heath singled in David Leon in the fifth to make the
score 10-3, but YSU managed just two more hits the rest of the
game.
The Falcons added two insurance runs in the seventh that came
with the help of two infield errors.
North was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on six hits
and two walks in two innings. Matt Kastelic allowed three runs on
seven hits in five innings to earn the win for Notre Dame
College.
Ross drove in four runs and scored three runs, and Neville
posted three RBIs for Notre Dame.
Youngstown State will head back into Horizon League play this
weekend with three games at UIC. The series will start on Friday at
3:05 p.m.
