Ludwig's Two Goals Lifts Soccer to 3-1 Victory Over VMI

Lexington, Va. -- Sophomore Allison Ludwig scored twice and freshman Jade Flory added a third goal to lead the Youngstown State soccer team to its first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over the Virginia Military Institute on Friday night.
The Guins improve to 1-1-1 overall while the Keydets fall to 1-1.
The Keydets jumped out to an early 1-0 when Simone Jimenez punched a rebound off YSU keeper Ali Viola at the 27:13 mark of the first half. Viola, who finished with seven saves, would not allow another goal the rest of the match.
The Keydets entered halftime with a 1-0 advantage, but Ludwig quickly tied the match at 1-1 just 13 minutes into the second stanza. Ludwig notched her first goal of the season off a corner kick from the flank.
Ludwig then gave the Guins the lead at the 72nd minute mark with her second goal of the game on a breakaway after a feed from Flory.
Flory sealed the contest with her second goal of the season - a 30-yarder into the lower right corner of the net - from an assist from sophomore Cori Stark.
The Guins return to action Sunday, Aug. 28, when they host Robert Morris in the 2011 home opener at Noon.
