Men's Track and Field

Men's, Women's Track and Field Teams Finish as Runners-Up at HL Outdoor Championships

The YSU men's and women's track and field teams finished as runners-up at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Sunday in Indianapolis, Indiana. On the third and final day of competition, the Guins also brought home nine individual event titles.

The men's team finished with 135.5 points, right behind first-place University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who had 156 points. Butler placed third with 100 points. Bobby Grace, Bryin Erhardt, Michael Davis, and Martin Solomon each won their respective event.

In the shot put competition, the men took five of the top six spots. Grace had a mark of 16.14 meters to finish first; he was followed by teammate John Sever, who placed second with 16.05 meters. John Pallini grabbed fourth with 14.89 meters, Jeremiah Folger finished fifth with 14.35 meters, and George Thomas rounded out the top six with 12.76 meters.

Erhardt moved into sole possession of second place on YSU's top ten charts in the high jump, winning with a jump of 2.06 meters. Aaron Hartsough jumped 1.91 meters to finish in sixth place.

Davis won the 200m dash in a personal-best time of 21.50 seconds. He moved into fourth place on YSU's top ten charts for the event. Davis also claimed third place in the 100m with a time of 10.73 seconds.

Solomon won titles in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. He ran personal-bests in both events, finishing the 110m hurdles in 14.56 seconds and the 400m hurdles in 53.10 seconds. Solomon is in second place in both events on YSU's top ten charts.

Also in the hurdles, Clay Febus finished fifth in the 110m (14.96 seconds) and fourth in the 400m (54.18); both times were personal-bests. Darius Reeves took sixth in the 110m (15.12) as well.

Other top performances by the men's team include Dorian Davis' second place finish in the triple jump (14.69 meters); Adam Kagarise's fourth place finish in the 400m (48.48 seconds); Reeves' sixth place finish in the triple jump (14.08 meters); and Eric Rupe's seventh place finish in the 1500m (3:55.23).

In the women's competition, YSU only needed three more points to claim the meet title. The Guins finished with 171 points while the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee took the top spot with 174 points. Butler finished third with 82 points. Kaitlyn Griffith and Katrina Rettburg finished first for the Guins in their respective field events while Ciara Jarrett set two meet records on her way to winning the 100m and 200m events.

The women took three of the top four positions in the shot put. Griffith won with a mark of 14.13 meters. Alison Roth was second with a mark of 13.75 meters, and KaiCee Kubicina finished in fourth with a throw of 12.29 meters.

Rettburg, who had the top mark coming in the high jump competition, won the event by jumping a height of 1.65 meters. She was also the Horizon League Indoor Champion in the high jump earlier this year.

Jarrett, who had the top times coming into the meet, set Horizon League meet records in the 100m with a time of 11.80 seconds and in the 200m with a personal-best time of 23.92 seconds. She currently ranks second on both events on YSU's top ten charts.

The Guins also took three of the top four positions in the 100m. Symona Gregory finished third with a time of 12.05 seconds, and Alisha Anthony placed fourth with a time of 12.18 seconds.

Gregory also ran a personal-best 24.51 seconds in the 200m for a third place finish.

Nicole Pachol set a new school record in the 400m hurdles with her third place time of 1:01.63. She topped her previous mark of 1:02.23 set earlier this season.

In the 400m dash, Taylor Entzi finished fourth (58.64 seconds) while teammate Alteeka Vanwright took sixth (59.66 seconds).

The 4x100m team of Entzi, Jarrett, Garner and Gregory finished in second place (47.23 seconds).  

Top performances on the women's team also include Anthony's fourth place finish in the triple jump (11.97 meters); Kendall Homan's fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.47 seconds) and seventh place finish in the triple jump (11.80 meters); Laura Kosiorek's seventh place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.61 seconds); and Samantha Hamilton's eighth place finish in the 5000m run.

The meet concluded the regular outdoor season for the Guins.
