Highland Heights, Ky. – Sophomore Kamryn Rosa scored in the 78th to break a 1-1 stalemate and lift the Youngstown State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the NKU Soccer Field.

With the win, the Penguins improve to 1-7-2 overall and 1-0 in Horizon League play while the Norse fall to 4-3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

The goal marked the first of the season for Rosa, and junior Kate Makkas notched the first score of her career while goalkeeper Kendall Sears earned her first career victory.

The Norse took a 1-0 advantage after a goal by Megan Molner at the 6:16 mark.

Sears and the Penguins defense held the Norse off for more than 83 minutes the rest of the game. Sears, who faced a total of 17 shots, tallied all four of her saves and held off a total of 14 shots in the second half.

Makkas knotted the game at 1-1 scoring on an Olimpico, a goal scored on a corner kick without being touched by another player, at the 17:07 mark of the game.

Rosa capitalized on her only shot of the game, blasting the game-winner into the lower left with just under 23 minutes to play.

Youngstown State begins a two-game Horizon League homestand when it hosts in-state rival Cleveland State, Thursday, Sept. 24. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
