FRISCO, Texas – Five Youngstown State women's golf student-athletes were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars for their impressive work in the classroom during the 2025-26 campaign, the organization announced on Monday.

The quintet of Penguins honored includes Valentina Peña Anaya, Sofia Perez Escarcena, Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Bella Saur and Maddi Shoults. Prajunpanich earns the honor for the third straight season while Perez Escarcena and Shoults were recognized for the second consecutive campaign.

The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum required cumulative GPA of 3.50. Overall, a total of 1,551 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with this prestigious honor for the 2025-26 season.

Those selected must also be an amateur and on their team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season. Golfers must also have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 750 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
