The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is launching the Red & White Fund, a clear, powerful way for philanthropic gifts to deliver transformative experiences for current and future Penguins.
The Red & White Fund is the dedicated philanthropic program that funds scholarships, nutrition, recruiting, facilities, travel and the complete student-athlete experience at YSU. It is tax-deductible, not tied to seating and is open to all supporters of Youngstown State Athletics.
Youngstown State's 2025-26 Student-Athletes of the Year, football player Beau Brungard and volleyball player Abbie Householder, are Mahoning Valley natives who recognize the opportunities made possible through philanthropic gifts.
"When I think about my time at Youngstown State, I think about more than football. I think about the challenges that pushed me, the relationships that shaped me, and the support system that made it all possible," Brungard said. "YSU has given me an opportunity that will impact the rest of my life. That's why giving back matters. It's about investing in the next group of student-athletes who come here with the same goals and dreams."
"What I've learned is that this experience goes far beyond wins, awards or records. It's about the discipline, resilience and character we build along the way, and the impact we have on others," Householder said. "The investment made by alumni, donors and fans creates opportunities not only for me, but for so many student-athletes to pursue their goals both on and off the field. I am deeply grateful for that support, and for the chance to be part of something so meaningful."
The Red & White Fund has eight giving levels that recognize annual gifts and pledge commitments supporting YSU student-athletes. Donors may direct their gifts to YSU's general athletics fund or the sport of their choice.
The Red & White Fund begins with the Bridge Builders level, which includes gifts of $100 to $499, and ranges to the Founder's Circle level for gifts of at least $50,000. All eight levels include membership in the Penguin Club, while experiences and exclusive benefits increase with each giving level.
