Chicago, Ill. – The Youngstown State baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision in the series finale to UIC on Sunday at Granderson Stadium.
Pitcher Brandon Mikos had a strong outing going 5.1 innings. Mikos scattered four hits and allowed just three runs while striking out three. In relief, Luke Zmolik pitched 2.1 innings allowing two runs on a pair of hits.
Alex Jang led the Penguins offensively with three hits and a stolen base. Garrett Cutting, Ryan Schummer and Teddy Ruffner also had hits.
The contest was scoreless until the fifth inning until UIC's Jake Busson homered to left field for two runs. The Flames had single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Busson hit his second homer of the afternoon in the seventh inning.
In the second, the Penguins had two runners on with one out, but failed to plate a run.
Earning the win for the Flames on the mound was Kendyll Lyons. Lyons pitched seven innings, scattering five hits while allowing no runs.
YSU will have a few days off for final exams before opening a seven-game homestand at 717 Credit Union Field at Eastwood on Friday night against Northern Kentucky. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
