Niles, Ohio -- The Youngstown State baseball team made its return to the friendly confines of 717 Credit Union Field at Eastwood on a late April evening Wednesday night, falling to Toledo 21-0 in a non-conference bout. The Penguins fell to 9-31 on the campaign while the Rockets improved to 18-23 in a shortened seven-inning contest.
Toledo tallied eight runs on the top of the first, before adding a slew of runs over the third, fourth, fifth, sixth innings. Redshirt senior right-hander Lane Rhodes came in for relief during the top of the first, tossing three innings while fanning two hitters.
Offensively, the Penguins mustered a trio of hits, including a double off the bat of freshmen Misael Uriepero, and singles by seniors Garrett Cutting and Teddy Ruffner.
Youngstown State will trek to Chicago for a three game series at Curtis Granderson Stadium versus UIC, starting at noon this Friday. Saturday and Sunday's contests against the Flames will be streamed live on ESPN+.
