Penguins Continue Spring Schedule Monday at Howard Lady Bison Intercollegiate

The Youngstown State women's golf team will continue its spring schedule on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Howard Lady Bison Intercollegiate at Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, Fla.

The Penguins are coming off a runner-up finish at The Oyster Shuck Match Play (Feb. 9-10) in their first event of the spring season. YSU opened the spring portion of its 2025-26 season with a 2-0 team performance on day one of the match play event hosted by The Citadel.

Youngstown State defeated Presbyterian 4-1 in the opening round of the tournament to advance into the winner's bracket before improving to 2-0 as a team with a 3-2 victory over Gardner-Webb later that day. The Guins concluded the event with a 4-1 loss to Samford in the championship match to finish as the tournament runner-up with a 2-1 overall record.

The tournament field at the Howard Lady Bison Intercollegiate will feature 12 other schools including Albany, Bethune-Cookman, Chicago State, Howard (host), Jackson State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Monmouth, North Carolina Central, Queens University of Charlotte, Saint Francis, Southern and The Citadel.

Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will include Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Maddi Shoults, Sofia Perez Escarcena, Valentina Peña Anaya and Bella Saur. In addition, Matilyn Zines will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.

The teams are slated to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 5,825 yards and par is 71. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard Live through links posted on YSUsports.com.

Youngstown State will deploy the same five-player team lineup for the seventh time in eight tournaments to this point in the 2025-26 season. Peña Anaya, Perez Escarcena, Prajunpanich and Shoults have competed in all seven events the Penguins have played this season while Saur has participated in six tournaments. Zines will make her spring season debut on Monday after competing as an individual on three occasions during the fall campaign.
