The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams took the top spots on the podium with strong all-around efforts at the Horizon League Track and Field Championships at the WATTS over the weekend.
The men won for the 11th consecutive time, winning their 12th overall title. The women won their 14th overall crown and took home the top spot for the ninth time in 10 years.
The men won on their home turf for the eighth straight time dating back to 2016. The women won at home for the eighth time in the last 10 meets since 2014.
League Honors
- Men's Champions – Isaiah Barker (long jump), Lukas Lang (pole vault), Jake Mcentyre (60m and 200m), Trenton Shutters (800m), Brayden Green (triple jump), Micah Mitchell (60m hurdles), Jaden Kirkwood (shot put) and Brandon Hutchinson (heptathlon).

Men's Horizon League Championship Notes
- The men's team raced to their 11th straight league title and 12th overall, scoring a Horizon League record 279 points. That total eclipsed the 275 that YSU amassed in 2024. YSU beat Milwaukee by 196 points, also a Horizon League record.
- YSU ties Notre Dame for winning the most consecutive HL indoor titles. The Penguins' 12th overall title moves them past the Irish into second place in conference history for most overall crowns.
- Won nine event titles (pole vault, 60m, 200m, 800m, 60m hurdles, shot put, long jump, triple jump, heptathlon) and had 10 runner-up performances.
- Scored at least 200 points for the ninth straight event.
- YSU scored at least one point in all 17 events. The Guins had 33 points in the long jump, 29 in the 200m, 24 in the 60m Hurdles, 24 in the shot put, 20 in the 3,000m, 20 in the triple jump, 19 in the weight throw and 18 in the pole vault and the 60m dash.
- Lukas's second straight victory extends YSU's reign in the pole vault competition to nine straight meets.
- Mcentyre won YSU's first 60m dash since 2022 and the 14th overall.
- Shutters joins Sean Peterson and Kurt Michaelis as the only Penguins to win the 800m.
- Mitchell's first win in the 60m hurdles gives YSU nine wins in the last 11 races.
- Kirkwood's win in the shot put give the Guins five of the last seven titles.
- Hutchinson became the first person in school history to win the heptathlon at the HL indoor meet.
- Coach Gorby was named the Coach of the Year for the 11th straight year and 13th time overall.
Women's Horizon League Championship Notes
- YSU won four event titles (pole vault, 60m hurdles, 5,000m, mile and weight throw). The Guins also posted runner-up finishes in two events.
- Fielding and YSU's Morgan Cole are the only two runners since 2004 to repeat in the 5,000m.
- Fielding's win in the mile gives the Penguins three wins in the event in the last five meets. Prior to 2022, YSU had won the mile just one time.
- King is the first Penguin since Nicolette Kreatsoulas to win the weight throw since 2019.
- Hamsher won her first career title in the pole vault after placing third and second in her previous two indoor meets.
- Atkins broke a 21-year school record with her effort in the 400m (55.46 seconds).
- Parham set the school record of 8.32 seconds in the finals of the 60m hurdles. She is the first YSU athlete to win the race since 2021.
- YSU scored points in all 17 events. The Penguins had 30 points in the pole vault, 23 in the 5,000m and 19 in the weight throw.
