Youngstown State senior men's golfer Ryan Sam has been named the Under Armour Horizon League Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday.
Sam, who collects the first weekly Horizon League honor of his career, led the Penguins to a runner-up finish at the two-day Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State, which concluded on Tuesday from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
The Canfield, Ohio, native finished tied for second on the individual leaderboard with a career-best, six-under-par three-round score of 210 (70-67-73) to earn the best individual finish of his career. The senior fired a career-low, five-under-par round of 67 in Monday's second session while finishing six shots back of the tournament medalist.
Sam carded an impressive 14 birdies during the second tournament of YSU's spring season. The senior's career-best second-round 67 featured seven birdies, nine pars and just two bogeys. As a team, four Penguins finished in the top 15 individually while YSU's three-round team total of 851 is tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole performance in program history.
Youngstown State will continue the spring portion of its 2025-26 season on March 30-31 with the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis.
