Penguins Take on Michigan Sunday Afternoon

Opening Kick
• The Youngstown State women's soccer team plays a team from the Big Ten Conference for the second time this season when it visits Michigan, Sunday, Sept. 7.
• Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the U-M Soccer Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. 

The Matchup
• This is the second meeting between Youngstown State and Michigan and the first in 15 years.
• Michigan defeated the Penguins, 1-0, in the first matchup on Sept. 24, 2010, in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Penguins vs. B1G
• The Penguins matchup against the Wolverines will be the fifth time YSU has faced a team from the Big Ten Conference.
•Youngstown State has played teams from the Big Ten four times previously and owns a record of 0-4.
• Earlier this season, the Penguins lost to Indiana, 6-1, on Aug. 14.
• The Penguins lost twice to Ohio State (2003, 2009) and once to Michigan (2010).

About Michigan
• Michigan enters the game with an overall record of 2-4 and has lost its last four matches.
• The Wolverines defeated Horizon League member Detroit Mercy, 4-0, on Aug. 17.
• Gabrielle Prych leads the Wolverines in scoring with four goals for eight total points while Elle Ervin has three goal and an assist.
• Goalkeeper Sophie Homan has one shutout, 21 saves, and a 1.82 goals-against average.

• The Penguins play their final non-conference game before Horizon League action begins when they visit Duquesne, Thursday, Sept. 11.
• Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Rooney Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Last Time Out
• The Penguins dropped a hard-fought contest to Big East foe St. John's, 2-1, on Aug. 31.
• Junior Camille Bultel scored for the second straight game in the Penguins' loss.

Naimoli Moving Up Lists
• Sophomore Maya Naimoli registered her first shutout of the season and her the fourth clean sheet of her career in the Penguins' win over St. Bonaventure.
• She now ranks tied for seventh with four career shutouts.
• Naimoli also ranks tied for fifth on the career wins list with six. 

Getting to Three
• Against the Bonnies, Youngstown State scored three goals in a game for the first time since a 3-1 victory over Robert Morris on Oct. 30, 2024.
• It also marked the fourth time since the start of the 2023 campaign the Penguins scored at least three goals in game.

Newcomers Make Impact
• Newcomers have made a big impact for the Penguins early on in the 2025 campaign scoring 16 of the Penguins' 20 points.
• Junior Camille Bultel leads the team with three goals and an assist for seven total points.
• Freshman Baylee Williams is second on the Penguins with five points on two goals and an assist.
• Freshman Kamryn Rosa has three points on a goal and an assist, while freshman Leah Weiland has tallied an assist.

Naimoli Putting In Work
• In her first five games of the year, sophomore goalkeeper Maya Naimoli has been tested.
• She has faced a total of 104 shots and has tallied 31 saves, including a career-high 11 against No. 25 Texas Tech on Aug. 17.

Big Debut
• A pair of Youngstown State freshman scored their first career points in their first collegiate game against Indiana on Aug. 14. 
• Freshman Baylee Williams notched her first career goal, and she was assisted by redshirt freshman Leah Weiland for her first career assist.

Top Scorers Return
• One of the top advantages for Youngstown State entering the season is the Penguins' top four scorers from the 2024 season return. 
• Senior forwards Taylor Berry, and Chloe Weiland, and sophomore striker Sara Felder and senior defender Emma Rigone are all back for YSU.
• Berry, who ranks 10th all-time with 27 career points, led the Penguins with nine points after scoring a pair of goals and dishing out five assists. 
• Her assists were the most in a season since Ernestina Abambila had eight in 2016.
•Weiland, who has scored seven goals in the last two seasons, posted three goals and added an assist for seven points. 
• Felder, who was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, also scored three goals for the Penguins.
• Rigone, a defender, notched two goals and added two assists for six points.
