The Youngstown State men's golf team will resume its fall schedule on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Virtues Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green at Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a second-place team finish in the Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational on Sept. 15 at Lake View Country Club in Erie, Pa. Redshirt junior Michael Porter earned a career-best second place finish at even par with a three-round score of 216 (72-77-67). The McDonald, Ohio, native fired a career-low, five-under-par 67 in the final round that featured 11 pars, six birdies and one bogey. In addition, sophomore Jordan Kish matched the best finish of his career as he tied for third with a three-round total of 217 (73-70-74).
The tournament field at the Virtues Intercollegiate will feature 15 other schools including Ashland, Bowling Green, Butler, Canisius, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Evansville, Kent State, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Mercyhurst, Miami (Ohio), Notre Dame, Western Kentucky and Wright State.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 continuous holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 7,243 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Porter, Kish, Ryan Sam, Nolan Shilling and Ayden Richmond. In addition, Jake Ryan will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.
Porter, Kish, Richmond, Sam and Shilling have competed in each of YSU's first two events this fall while Ryan will be participating in his second straight event as an individual.
